Santa Rosa, Calif. – Vineyard & Winery Management announced today that it’s closing its doors after 43 years in operation. The independently owned and operated multimedia company produced Vineyard & Winery Management magazine, a highly respected wine trade publication that was founded in upstate New York by J. William Moffett and Hope Merletti. Their son, Robert Merletti, was eventually named chairman and CEO. The magazine focused its efforts on providing the wine trade with in-depth information and articles about its most pressing issues, techniques, important events, newest technologies and engaging personalities.
The magazine expanded internationally and had the highest circulation of any North American wine trade publication. The company also added several successful wine competitions (The Press Democrat North Coast Wine Challenge, Grand Harvest Awards, East Meets West Wine Challenge and the International Women’s Wine Competition) and industry trade shows (Craft Beverages Unlimited East and Craft Beverages Unlimited Midwest) to its portfolio, but discontinued ownership of them last year in an effort to focus solely on its publishing roots. Unfortunately, those efforts have now come to an end. The bi-monthly magazine’s last circulated issue was for March/April 2017.
In recent years, the company experienced a series of unavoidable and unfortunate circumstances that led to acute cash flow issues. “Thank you to everyone who supported and subscribed to Vineyard & Winery Management for so many years,” said Robert Merletti of the business’ closure. “It’s with a heavy heart that we have to make this decision.”
So sad to read this news! 🙁
Thank you for all your work and excellence over the years. Wishing you good fortune on your next phase.
SORRY TO SEE IT GO. ENJOYED IT DURING THE PAST 20 YEARS
VYM was the bible for many years and we were proud to be an advertiser for most of that time; a great publication.
Our best wishes to Rob and the Merletti family.
Hi Rob
I’m sorry to see the magazine come to an end. I enjoyed the years as a columnist, as well as the relationship with the staff and Merletti families.
Best of luck in the future endeavors.
Thanks to all at Vineyard and Winery Management magazine who advanced every aspect of our industry for so many years. Your hard work was noticed and we wish everyone our best as you walk through the next door of life.

Your magazine was started just in the nick of time for me. I began making wine commercially in ’71 and looked forward to each issue. So much valuable information came through its pages. When I went to the mail box and it was there it was a high point of the day for me. Thank you.
Rob,
I can only echo the comments of Donnie and others above. You and Bill and Hope helped advance the American wine industry to the vibrant 8000 plus wineries we see today spanning every state. Even though this chapter is closing, stay vigilant and creative, as I know you will.
Very best, Mark
Rob,
We are stunned. Vineyard and Winery Management was always the first to read, and always on the conference room table. Our winery was founded at nearly the same time and it feels like we grew up together. We are sad but know that you will prosper with your creativity and entrepreneurial spirit. Best wishes from all of us at Oliver Winery.
